BLIS-Information System for the Blind and Sight Impaired

Passengers of public transportation are informed via optical information on displays about time schedules, travel routes and the next station. But this kind of information does not reach passengers with impaired eyesight.

ANNAX BLIS provides additional functionality for passenger information systems. The sight-impaired passenger possesses a personal device (hand device or integrated in white cane), which, after pressing one of the control buttons, emits an acoustic message about the next stop or the final station.

The system can be newly installed into a vehicle or be integrated into an existing passenger information system of a public transportation system, upgrading it to make it more accessible for disabled passengers.

CCTV System

To improve the safety of passengers and personnel, ANNAX offers a CCTV system of surveillance cameras and video recorders which can be integrated into the PIS.

The interior of the vehicle, sites of emergency and scenes of fires, as well as passengers using the emergency communication units can be observed by train personnel and staff at the land-based control centre. IP-cameras are used as surveillance cameras. The footage of the cameras is transmitted via Ethernet to video recorders for storage and displays in the OCC or the driver cab for live observation. To record the footage, ANNAX offers the recorders NVR 33 and NVR 16, as well as unique software developed by ANNAX to download, display and enhance reviewing of recorded video material. The PIS notifies personnel automatically if the storage of the recorders is about to run out or whether a hard disc error occurred.

Customer Specific Displays (Stretched Displays)

Customer Specific Displays (Stretched Displays)

To provide passengers with an increasing amount of information is purpose and priority for passenger information systems. But the architecture and design of railway vehicles often leaves only a limited amount of space and area for displays in the common 4:3 or 16:9 formats. The licensed Stretched Display technology of ANNAX allows the efficient production of displays in new formats, which can be installed in areas of a vehicle which were previously unavailable. ANNAX provides the successful LED backlight technology for the new Stretched Displays, and thanks to the available luminosity between 300 cd to 1500 cd per square metre, great readability and high contrast are ascertained for both interior and exterior display applications. The usage of proved and tested TFT and LED technology ensures a high reliability and long-life cycle of ANNAX products.

The third stage is full integration. It enables the automatic transmission of a fire alarm and a video feed of the scene of fire to the land-based control centre. It will also establish a communication channel between CC and vehicle driver.

Fleet Management System (FMS)

Fleet Management System (FMS)

The Fleet Management System (FMS) of ANNAX is is used to manage a railway fleet and the integrated passenger information system. It enables data transmissions between cabs, control centres and devices within a vehicle. The system can be expanded with additional, customer-specific functions.

The FMS enables functions like the fetching and display of status information, like operation status and position of a vehicle via GPS, but also maintainence information, like the availability of software upgrades, and application-specific data for CCTV systems or automatic passenger counting.

In addition to that, the FMS can provide passenger relvant content. This includes a seat reservation system, the planning and compilation of travel routes or information for connecting trains. The display of entertainment and advertising content is just as easy as relaying news or weather information. Large volumes of data are transferred quickly, safely and reliably. The...

Infotainment for Passengers

Infotainment for Passengers

Infotainment represents the combination of information and entertainment services. ANNAX offers displays and components, which can be used to present travel-related information as well as advertising and entertainment content.

To this category belong the InSeat and InArmchair displays, which are installed directly into the seats or armchairs, respectively. But also ceiling displays can be used for infotainment purposes. The Seat-Audio-Module (SAM) serves as an interface for headphones and allows controlling the volume of presented audio- and video content. It is installed into the armrest between two seats.

Wabtec Annax LED Displays

LED Displays

LEDs (Light-Emitting-Diodes) are semi-conductor elements which emit light when supplied with power. LEDs are a proven and cheap technology with a high luminance and a long life cycle. In addition, LEDs are robust and relatively insensitive to the damaging influence of temperature and humidity. ANNAX utilises LEDs for exterior and interior displays, for backlighting of TFT displays and as coloured indicators for the operation status of devices and products.

Wabtec Annax PIS Controller

PIS Controller

The PIS Controller is the central component of the passenger information system. It contains time schedule data, the ELA and the interfaces for displays, Intercom Units and other components. It also administrates the communication between train control and the land-based railway control centre.

Other duties include setting the priority for on-board intercom calls, controlling LED and TFT displays, administrating route map data, handling of internal and external communication, and managing the CCTV system. Additionally, the controller establishes the connection with the Train Communication Management System (TCMS) and operates the traction interface.

The PIS Controller consists of a standard rack with a width of 84/42 TE and a height of 3 HE, to which other components are added as needed. For example, the controller (Type REC2), an amplifier component (Type RAMP), a power supply (RP110, RP72 or RP36 depending on on-board voltage) and other components, like the UIC interface or RIO2...

Wabtec Annax - Powerline - Network Connections over Vehicle Couplings

Powerline - Network Connections over Vehicle Couplings

The coupling of two vehicle compositions happens several times a day under very rough conditions, which renders the safe transmission of signals and data a difficult task.

Powerline is an IP communication solution which allows establishing a safe and stable Ethernet connection between two vehicle compositions.

The ANNAX PowLine technology transforms the ETH data traffic of the network into a high-frequency signal and transmits the signal via induction to the existing conductors of the other composition.

The data transfer rate reaches up to 40 to 80 Mbit per second, depending on the material and length of the conductors (PLC latency time ca. 10ms).

Technology Platforms

The vehicle platform is the central communication node of railway vehicles. It coordinates and controls the application installed in the trains, like the CCTV system, the passenger information system, the vehicle GPS positioning or the automatic passenger counting system. The related data can be transferred to a land-based operating control centre (OCC). Future applications on the trains can easily be integrated into the existing platform. The data transfer between two trains (decentralised), and between train and OCC, via GSM/GPRS or WLAN, is encrypted. The decentralised vehicle platform on trains combines CCTV, automatic passenger counting and the customer information system via a unified IT platform, which allows resources of communication (GSM,GPS, WLAN) and system management (positioning, software distribution, status messages etc.) to be shared by different applications. At the moment, more than 700 vehicle platforms by ANNAX are in operation.

ANNAX offers the...
