G & B’s Rail Mounted Circuit Controller mounts to the base of the rail, utilizing the Model 856/U-5 or Model 956/7K & 7J circuit controllers. It is an optimal choice for adding temporary point detection to dark territory switch locations for PTC. It can also be applied to standard switch layouts or swing nose frog layouts. Tie crib width must be a minimum of 13”. G&B’s Rail Mount clamps to rail sizes 115lb and higher and has a 1” clearance below the head of the stock rail. Rubber mounting washers reduces vibration and Nord-lock washers with a wire tie secures the unit to the base of the rail.

RailBAM® - Bearing Acoustic Monitor

The RailBAM® system uses advanced "beam forming" technology to monitor the acoustic emissions of each wheel of railway vehicles passing at line speed. This information allows for the identification of defects in wheel bearings with thousands of kilometres of remaining life. This early fault detection enables fleet maintainers to monitor (trend) the bearing condition and optimize the timing of a vehicle’s removal from service, therefore providing improved maintenance planning and in many cases extended bearing life.

The implementation of an acoustic bearing detector system or Bearing Acoustic Monitor may also result in a reduction of the number of traditional bearing fault detection systems being used – for example Thermal Hot Box Detection systems.
 
The principle of operation is based on identifiable sound characteristics emitted by bearing and wheel impact faults. A bearing fault excites structural response of the bearing components that radiate sound characteristics of the bearing fault signature. Proprietary signal processing techniques allow the bearing fault signal to be extracted from the structural noise, enabling fault identification and classification. An acoustic array gives greatly improved spatial discrimination ("directionality"). De-cross talking using the measured wheel-array geometry and acoustic propagation physics reduces, in software, the influence of a large fault on one axle from the reading of a small fault on an adjacent axle.
 
The RailBAM System applies to both Package and Axle Box Bearings of all load classes and all bearing manufacturers. Bearings with developing faults have been monitored and trended for more than 300,000 kilometres, although it must be stressed that bearing condition can deteriorate rapidly and it is the rate of change in fault level that is as important as the presence of a severe fault itself. Graded severity fault levels have been determined from a series of test trains with known seeded faults as well as from practical usage of the system and feedback from fleet operators. This has led to a reliable process for isolation and trending of severe and developing bearing faults. These can be optimised to meet the client’s trending/operational goals.
 
The RailBAM Bearing Acoustic Monitor is designed for remote use in extreme conditions, therefore requiring minimal ongoing inspection and maintenance. Systems are installed and operational in hot arid zones within Australia as well as the extremes of cold temperatures in North America and China.
 
RailBAM has an autonomous self-monitoring capability to ensure that the site hardware is functioning correctly. If there is a fault identified during “self-monitoring”, an automatic alarm is raised and sent to the system maintainer by email. This allows the site maintainer to have a good understanding of what the exact problem is before going to site, thus reducing time on site.

RailSQAD® uses advanced "beam forming" technology to monitor the acoustic emissions of each wheelset of railway vehicles passing at line speed. This information allows for the identification of squealing and flanging wheelsets, as a potential indicator bogies/wheelset misalignment.
 
Wheelset noise emissions are classified as analyzed: Squealing or Flanging are ranked according to noise level against agreed criteria. All processed data is imported into the FleetONETM Database that produces statistical data for analysis against varying train operating parameters, rolling stock condition and environmental conditions.

Riveted Rail Skate

G&B Specialties’ Riveted Rail Skate is a heavy-duty device used to stop railcars moving at normal switching speeds. These skates are made for severe service, especially in classification yards, where long and very heavy trains are being formed. The skate is placed in front of the moving railcar. The sharp, tapered tail of the skate lets the wheel mount and slide with the skate. A hardened high back prevents the wheel from jumping over. The ensuing friction brings the railcar to a gradual stop. Standard color is aluminum; however, fluorescent orange and safety yellow is available for increased night visibility.

Roof-Mounted Pantographs Roof-Mounted pantographs for tram lines, metropolitan railways, metros, traction units (electrical multiple units - EMUs), trains and locomotives as well as potential special-purpose vehicles are developed for various overhead line systems and speeds, whereby a raising to and lowering from the overhead line is carried out by an electric or pneumatic drive depending on customer requirements. The continuous contact force to the overhead line at higher speeds is either realised by mechanical deflectors or by a specifically developed electric-pneumatic control system. If requested, an emergency drop is offered, which lowers the pantograph as quickly as possible in the event of collisions with the overhead line.

Stinger systems serve the power supply of parked vehicles in maintenance areas, e.g. for battery charging or other maintenance work, which must be conducted under vehicle voltage. Furthermore, with our Stinger systems, the vehicles can be moved within the depot or maintenance facilities by means of a control console.  The connection terminals of our 3rd Rail Current Collectors can be used as Stinger terminals by installing an arbor.  We manufacture and install complete systems according to customer requirements including conductor lines, plug and wire connections, control systems and arbors on railway vehicles.
